Prayer for Climate Action

Dear God,

You made the Earth so bright,With trees and seas and stars at night. We’re sorry when we do things wrong,Please help us all to grow up strong.

Help us care and do our part,With gentle hands and loving heart.Let all we do be done in love,For Earth below and You above.

Amen.

Bible Story: The Parable of the Talents

Summary:Jesus told a story about a man who gave his servants some money (called talents) before going on a trip. Two of the servants used the money wisely and helped it grow. But one servant hid the money and didn’t use it at all. When the man came back, he was happy with the servants who used their talents well.

Key Message:God gives each of us special gifts, like our minds, our kindness, and our ability to learn. When we use these gifts to help others and make good choices, we are showing love to God and to the world.

Link to the Virtues

  • Learned 🡪 Finding God in All Things:We can find God in our learning, in nature, in helping others, and in the talents we’ve been given.

  • Wise 🡪 Using Learning for the Common Good:Just like the servants who used their talents well, we are called to use what we learn to help others and make the world a better place.

Starting your letter…

Dear Earth,

[write a personal and heart felt message to the earth about what you love and how you feel about the impact of our actions that is damaging the world…remember it has been given as a gift to us, to care for. Is this gift being valued?]

To world leaders and policymakers…

You need to include a plea to the leaders for the following goals:

✅ Help the poorest countries by cancelling their debt

✅ Make sure enough money is provided to fix damage from climate disasters

✅ Make sure the change to clean energy is fair to everyone

✅ Grow food in ways that are kind to nature and people

Be wise in how you can put your message across to leaders who can make change

Can you think how these virtues link to the story of David and Goliath?

Bible Story: David and Goliath

Summary:David was a young shepherd boy who was curious and brave. When he saw that everyone was afraid of the giant Goliath, he asked questions and wanted to understand what was happening. Even though he was small and young, David believed God could help him make a difference. With just a sling and a stone, he stood up to Goliath and helped save his people.

Curious: David asked questions and wanted to understand the situation. He didn’t just accept things as they were.

Active: He didn’t wait for someone else to fix the problem, he stepped up and did what he could, trusting God.

My Courage Shield

Create a personal ‘shield’ that shows how you can be brave, curious, and take action to help others or care for the world, just like David did.

Divide the shield into 4 sections.

In each section, draw or write:

    • Something you’re curious about (e.g. ‘How trees grow’)
    • Something you're good at (e.g. ‘Helping friends’)
    • One way you can help the world (e.g. ‘Pick up litter’)
    • A word or picture that reminds you to be brave (e.g. a heart, cross, or the word ‘Hope’)

Decorate the shield with colours and symbols that make you feel strong and inspired.

David used what he had to, to do something brave. What will you use to help make the world better?

What: 30th United Nations Climate Change conference

When: 10th-21st November 2025

Where: Brazil

Why: These meetings are crucial because they bring together representatives from nearly every country on Earth to discuss and negotiate global actions to tackle climate change. COPs play a vital role in reviewing progress, setting new goals, and agreeing on measures to address the climate crisis.

COP30

Be curious and research about the previous COP conferences and the themes for COP30

What can you do?

Now that momentum is rising in the lead up to the COP conference in November, send a copy of your letter to your elected representatives:

  • Local MP
  • Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero
  • Prime Minister
  • Or all of them – with a note explaining why you have written a Letter to the Earth challenging political representatives to work harder to tackle climate change and environmental damage.

Be active and tell politicians how you feel about the damage to our Common Home
