Questions for Prototype Interviews

  • What part of the prototype do you think will be most beneficial...
  • What part do you think will be least helpful?
  • Were the steps in prototype easy to follow?
  • Do you think the proposed medium will be effective?
  • How did you feel about the number of recommended resources -- i.e. too few, too many, or just enough?

MEDIUM OPTIONS

  1. Print - What and why?
  2. Physical - resources, products, games, fun gadgets or party boxes to make the night fun
  3. Digital -
    1. Keynote of slides (easier to team editing)
    2. Invision (made of connected JPEGs; more realistic and individual experience)
      1. Made of designs built in Slides and exported to JPEGs

  1. Start with an opening scene: where will your users first naturally encounter your prototype?

Examples: in a f2f interaction, in the web store, in a web search, magazine, church bookshelf,

on social media (FB, Twitter, Instagram), in their email inbox, etc.

  1. Draw that in your first frame.

  1. Take the flow step-by-step, drawing in each frame.

  1. When there’s a gap in the flow, don’t fill it in unless it is critical to testing the validity of your prototype.

  1. If there is a gap to be filled, try to use existing sketches/ideas from your “maybe laters.”

Key Principles

  • Work with what you have, don’t try to come up with new ideas. Use the winning sketches and components whenever possible.
  • Don’t group write—write in “tbd” for headlines/copy, or use writing from the pre-existing sketches.
  • Only add in enough detail so it’s clear what happens next. You can add in notes like “whoever makes this section can decide the details of what goes here.”
  • Conserve decision-making energy—rely on the Decider, don’t dissolve back into democracy.
  • When in doubt, take risks—prototyping is great for testing risky solutions.
  • Make sure the whole prototype can be tested in 15 minutes.

Visual resource gathering -

  • Assign Roles
    • UX (Maker) - Structure of and media (i.e. online/ offline for each section) > Tags writer
    • Writer - Defines content segments, determines assets needed, assembles content segments, and writes copy
    • Resource Collector - Collects content (e.g. links, content blocks, etc.)
    • Visualizer - Collects or creates visuals (e.g. quick sketches, stock imagery, etc.)
    • Stitcher - Takes all individual pieces of prototype and edits to ensure everything flows together with continuity
  • Determine Tools & Process
    • What tools are we building in?
    • How are we using tools (e.g. commenting, tagging, setting to-dos, handing-off)?
  • Discuss an Asset Plan

    • F2f / word of mouth from friend
  • Time box: 1 month
  • Key features:
    • Celebration moments
    • Mission/Purpose includes meeting the needs of others

Storyboard Structure
