It is related to the adjective or adverb in a sentence. degree of comparison has 3 types: Comparative Degree of Comparison, Positive Degree of Comparison, and Superlative Degree of Comparison.

The comparative degree of comparison?

the comparative degree is the first level of comparison that can be used to evaluate and differentiate the similar quality or qualities possessed by the subjects in a particular context.

Adjectives : slower, more beautiful, happier

Adverbs : more slowly, more beautifully, more happily

Example:

  1. Hilda is smarter than Maros.
  2. My hair is longer than Nova’s hair.
  3. This book is thinner than a laptop.
  4. Kezia is more beautiful than before.
  5. I believe you can do so better.

A positive degree is an adverb or adjective that is used to express a comparison of equal levels.

Adjectives : slow, beautiful, happy

Adverbs : slowly, beautifully, happily

Example :

  1. My sister is as beautiful as me.
  2. Maro’s voice is not as amazing as Poppy’s.
  3. Is Berkat’s hair as long as Ande’s hair?

Superlative is the name given to the grammar used to compare three or more people, things, or things

Adjectives : slowest, most beautiful, happiest

Adverbs : most slowly, most beautifully, most happily

  3. This mountain is the most beautiful view.
