PURPOSE OF THIS PLAN

The purpose of this document is to provide a framework to re-open in the fall of 2020-2021 in the safest way possible while fulfilling our mission to educate our students. Due to concern for the health and safety of our students, staff, and community related to COVID-19, our school district’s have been working on developing plans based upon the recommendations from local/state/federal health departments and the Department of Public Instruction. This plan cannot possibly address every scenario that the COVID-19 pandemic might produce; real-time issues and decisions that are not identified in this plan will be addressed collaboratively between partner agencies.

Lakeland Area School Districts are working together to provide a framework to open schools in the fall of 2020-2021. The framework includes guidance from a variety of sources including, Department of Public Instruction, Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and both Vilas and Oneida County Health Departments. The safety of students, staff, and the community is our top priority.

GOALS FOR THIS REOPENING PLAN

  1. To provide a safe and secure environment for all students, staff, and the community while fulfilling our mission to educate our students.

  • To provide face to face instruction in school when possible within the guidelines of local and state health departments.

  • To provide the best possible educational opportunities for all students regardless of learning format and/or setting.

  • To provide continual communication with all stakeholders in a timely manner.

PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS

  • The safety of students, staff and the community is the highest priority

  • The District will make modifications to its practices and protocols to keep the students as safe as possible while continuing to educate our students

  • There may likely be positive COVID-19 cases within the community that will require quarantine of student(s) and/or staff

  • Remote learning may be required at times in response to changing conditions in our school community

  • Co-curricular events may be canceled or postponed based on pandemic activity and/or sport and county risk level

  • This plan may be changed from time to time as COVID-19 guidance and recommendations continue to evolve and/or circumstances dictate

PLANNING CONSIDERATIONS FOR FAMILIES

  • Families should be prepared for short term building closures without significant notice throughout the school year. These may be necessary for deep cleaning or for quarantine of students or staff. Begin to plan now for back-up child care options - much like an inclement weather closure.

  • Families must screen their children daily for symptoms of COVID-19. Families have the responsibility to keep their children home from school when they are ill and to notify the school of the presence of COVID-19 illness if it occurs

  • New procedures may be in place for the safe drop off and pick up of students

  • Large events like open house/PT conf/performances/contests may be cancelled or modified
