OVERVIEW OF THE SIG:�BRIEF HISTORY AND PURPOSE

 �INCLUSIVE TEACHER EDUCATION �SIG�OF THE NEW YORK STATE ASSOCIATION OF TEACHER EDUCATORS (NYSATE) �

HISTORY OF THE SIG

• Many teacher educators in New York State participated in the Task Force for Quality Inclusive Schooling (TFQIS)
• Gathered often in Albany and at the annual NYSATE/NYACTE conference in order to collaborate on projects to improve inclusive schooling and to move inclusive teacher education forward.
• The SIG seeks to promote the same levels of energized commitment evident when New York State teacher educators gathered as they worked on TFQIS grant projects.

WHO ARE WE, WHAT DO WE DO?

• Do you seek a forum for discussing how to make your own practice more inclusive?
• Would you like to present about inclusive teacher education at the annual NYSATE/NYACTE conference?
• Do you want more advocacy for inclusive projects in schooling and in teacher education?
• The SIG is open to any NYSATE member who shares interest in and commitment to the purposes outlined by the SIG.

OUR PURPOSE & ACTIVITIES

• Promote the cause of inclusive schooling and inclusive teacher education in New York State;
• Provide a venue in which teacher educators and interested associates can grow professionally;
• Support a regional structure among teacher educators, their colleges and universities, and local school partners for collaborative projects related to inclusive teacher education.
• The Inclusive Teacher Education SIG is comprehensive in terms of its focus and supports all learners without exception.
• The purposes noted above will support teaching and learning in its broadest sense.

�THE SIG SPONSORS SPEAKERS AND PANELS AT ANNUAL NYSATE/NYACTE CONFERENCE�

NYSATE/NYACTE 2022 CONFERENCE

• The SIG annually sponsors 1—2 sessions at the NYSATE/NYACTE conference. If you would like to be considered for sponsorship please do the following:
• 1) Submit your proposal online (the link will be the same one shared by the 2022 NYSATE/NYACTE conference chairs) and
• 2) Send your proposal description via email to us by May 15^th 2022.

• Review and accept conference proposals for the Inclusive Teacher Education SIG Strand of Presentations at annual NYSATE/NYACTE conference
• Support collaborative Inclusive Teacher Education SIG breakfast/discussions at annual NYSATE/NYACTE conference
• Maintain a Google doc database of members (contact information)
• Quarterly communication with SIG members

NEXT STEPS- LET’S CONSIDER:

• Expand the breadth of Inclusion to include ‘other social justice’. We need to continue the conversation.
• Excelsior Journal: Submit an article(s) for publication based on your work.
• Diversity inclusion award: Establish timeline, criteria (P-12 teachers who are starting out and & faculty), and committee.
• Recruit more members.
• Next meeting?
