THINKING ON BOX (T.O.B. STUDIO)
T.O.B. Studio is a collective of Malaysian art enthusiasts, making their way through the art industry in Malaysia. We organize and build a community specifically for emerging artists with various backgrounds and personalities.
Yes, normally we say “think outside the box”, but well, we’re artists, we do whatever we want. Together, we celebrate all the differences we have among ourselves. Despite being different, we have the same interest or common objective, which is art. We help and support each other to strive.

Artist’ Statement
I doing this artwork because I inspired by the Japanese wisdom which is the three faces of human. This topic tell us that human have 3 faces which the first face was the face that we show to the world or public. The second face is the face that we show to family and close friend. And the last one is the face that only we know. So to make my topic more interesting I related this Japanese wisdom with the Carl Jung's theory which is the mask theory.

Frame - type 1/1 (2024)
Size: 15cm x 20cm
Medium: Monoprint on paper
Price: RM200
Artist’s Statement
She sits upon the edge of a frame,
not waiting to be seen,
but softening the borders,
until “inside” and “outside” lose their names.
Red breathes in silence,
a pulse unyielding through history,
between the echo of old chairs and chandeliers,
she is no longer an ornament.
It is a quiet departure,
a gentle renaming,
from an image once enclosed,
she becomes herself,
beyond the frame.
Artist’s Background
Jueng is a Kuala Lumpur-based visual artist specializing in surrealist painting. Her works explore the inherent tension between opposing forces (like innocence and corruption, or nature and control) by depicting fragmented narratives and dreamlike scenarios. She reimagines the natural order to offer commentary on human social hierarchy and the subtle absurdity of daily life. Jueng is currently deepening her practice as a participant in the Dasein Fine Art Department Artist Residency Programme. Her awards include the 2nd Prize in Oil/Acrylic at the UTH Art Competition 2024 and the Spotlight Award in the MR D.I.Y Art Competition 2025.

Artist’s Statement
A surreal encounter unfolds in a dreamlike setting where the line between reality and imagination gradually becomes blurred. The image represents a dialogue with the subconscious, where emotions take on unfamiliar shapes and forms. Through dark humor and quiet tension, the piece delves into the mystery of the unknown and the subtle beauty within chaos. It beckons viewers into a realm that feels simultaneously distant and intimate, a space where dreams converse in symbols and the surreal mirrors the self.
Artist’s Statement
Life is like a chessboard: structured yet full of uncertainty. Every move carries weight, and each step determines a path. The curled form symbolizes the human instinct to retreat, reflect, and protect oneself in reality. Here, geometric order and organic softness intertwine, creating a dialogue between reason and emotion. The chessboard becomes a metaphor for choice and survival, reminding us that even stillness is a move in the game of life

In this work, I explore a moment of quiet contemplation — a pause between fear and acceptance. The batik cloth represents comfort and protection, while the frangipani flowers symbolize purity and healing. Wrapped in stillness, I confront my thoughts and emotions, learning that peace comes not from hiding, but from understanding and embracing myself within.

Medium: Oil pastel on paper

Azizah Hashim
Artist’s Statement
This artwork reflects my personal journey toward self-acceptance and mental healing. For a long time, I lived in fear of being judged.hiding beneath the comfort of the batik cloth as a symbol of protection. It represents the space where I kept my true self unseen, afraid of the voices around me.
The butterflies surrounding me symbolize transformation, growth, and renewal — change takes time and change begins when we allow ourselves to unfold. As I lift the batik, it marks the moment of release — the courage to face the world as I am.
“Embrace” speaks about the quiet strength found in vulnerability. It is a reminder that true healing begins when we accept ourselves fully, and learn to see beauty in every stage of our becoming.

Artist’s Statement
This painting captures the non-linear struggle of self-growth and the tension of internal resistance. Centered on a "root creature" representing the foundational self, the work contrasts vibrant, upward-reaching green leaves of potential with heavy, wilting tendrils that symbolize the paralysis of overthinking. The agitated canvas texture mirrors a mind caught in a loop of anxiety, while the patterned blue frame acts as both a protective boundary and a site of containment. Ultimately, the piece visualizes the delicate balance between fostering new life and overcoming the weight of worry.
