Bargaining Update

  • Where we still want to get movement
    • Raises
      • Now we believe that all the money allocated by the State is on the table
      • They are saying all of the “pie”is on the table and we have to take from raises to get other things like health care premiums covered or a fund for dependent medical care

Bargaining Update

  • Where we still want to get movement
    • Dental, Vision, Dependent Healthcare
      • They say they need to go through a Request for Proposal (RFP) process
      • If we wait for an RFP, we want some coverage of current premium and to be involved in RFP
      • We want some kind of funds for dependent medical care

Bargaining Update

  • Where we still want to get movement
    • International Workers Rights
      • We are very close and won “The University will not release the immigration status of a bargaining unit member except as required by law or authorized in writing by the bargaining unit member.”
      • We want this “The University will provide a safe learning, research, and working environment for all bargaining unit members, regardless of immigration status.” but it could fall under the Health & Safety Article

Bargaining Update

  • Where we still want to get movement
    • Duration
      • We want to align our bargaining with the finalization of the University budget and the legislative session
      • We want a contract that has a shorter duration because then we have the chance to negotiate and fight for improvements sooner
      • It’s agreed upon that we will need annual wage reopeners to agree on raises
  • Onto the picket! (discussed in-depth at Emergency Town Hall and CAT)

Member Concerns about Leadership

Several members have had concerns about the following issues:

      • Accountability of elected leadership
      • Barriers to the democratic process in our union with the current voting procedures and a call to reform them
      • The removal of area stewards from EC and concerns about leadership and power

How do we hope to resolve these issues?:

  • Implementation of a task force on accountability to the bylaws which will discusses reforms to make our union a more transparent and welcoming place for all workers
    • Implementation of systems that ensure balanced power hierarchies are conducive to attracting diverse representation within our union
