MUHSD Graduation Requirements

You must earn a minimum of 220 credits in order to graduate from high school. But in addition, you must meet specific subject-area requirements by passing certain classes.

Click HERE to see the course requirements for our District. Note that for each subject area you see the requirement for both Graduation and A-G. (More about A-G on the next slide!)

But I want to go to college!

A-G Requirements

  • If your goal is to go to a California public university or other* four-year college directly after high school, you must pass specific courses (with a C or better) in order to be eligible. These are called A-G Requirements.
  • You do not need to complete the A-G Requirements if you want to start at a community college first, then transfer to university.
  • You should always remind your counselor of your college goals whenever you meet to discuss grades or graduation status.
  • Read all about the A-G Requirements and understand how they compare to graduation requirements.

*The requirements of private or out-of-state colleges/universities may vary. It is your responsibility to check the requirements of any school you are considering.

CTE Requirements & Pathway Completion

  • All students must do at least two CTE courses (which must include a capstone) in order to graduate.
  • Student who complete a full CTE sequence will earn pathway completion honors at graduation.
  • Review full CTE sectors and pathways here.
  • Refer to your “My CTE Pathways Worksheet,” which you should have updated recently with your counselor. This will help you better understand the pathway course sequences* and which classes you may want to select.

*Pathway sequences are subject to change. You may receive CTE credit for courses shown on your worksheet, or on the link above.

What if I fail a class?

Failures can cause big problems, so you’re right to be concerned!

  • Failed classes may need to be retaken or remediated through Summer School or our Academic Support program.
  • Even if you failed a course first semester, you should still try to pass second semester--you only have to make up the part you fail.
  • Each case is different. Your counselor will help you make a plan to get back on track!

Best advice: If you’ve failed a class, take steps to understand what you did wrong so it won’t happen again!
