Who We Are

  • Our mission is to improve the lives of the unhoused community in Gainesville.
  • We do this by providing consistent, reliable volunteering at GRACE Marketplace, which is Alachua county's largest homeless shelter.

We are proud to be the recipients of UF SAI’s “Greater Good” Organization of 2022-2023 and Collegiate Volunteer Group of the DECADE awarded by Grace Marketplace!!

Leanne Wong Foundation

-partnered with this foundation!

-their focus is to reduce food waste and food insecurity

-deliver leftover meals from UF sporting events to Grace every weekend!

-meet behind the Heavener football center/ healthcare center to load up food & bring it to GRACE on the weekends (times TBD)

-1 volunteer point!

Leanne will be posting on the slack under #foodpickups the dates for pick up!! Be sure to reply if you are able to do the pickup/drop off!

Types of Volunteering

  • Donation Center: Volunteers will sort and prepare incoming donations
  • Clothing Closet: Volunteers assist in stocking the boutique and help guests find clothing
  • Cafe 131: Serving meals to GRACE guests (Shifts available on GRACE website)
  • Additional opportunities: giving garden, HEAT, pets
  • Monday and Sunday are GAP specific days! Dinner shifts Monday and Sunday & lunch on Sunday

FUNDRAISING

Why is FUNDRAISING important for GAP?

  • Emergency funds to assist GRACE (e.g. an emergency purchase for men’s underwear due to a shortage at GRACE)
  • To run operations at GAP (e.g. making toiletry kits, running donation drives, etc.)

HEAT

  • HEAT or Health Education Accessibility Training, is a program at GRACE marketplace promoting accessible, easy to understand health education with guests on campus to improve health outcomes and health literacy.

HOST A DONATION DRIVE

  • Contact our Donation Directors to host a donation drive, or provide our contact to someone you know who can host one
  • We are working on doing a blanket and bedsheets drive as these are very needed items at Grace right now! We will most likely be doing this with pre-health organizations and/or sororities, but dates and drop off locations for this will be available soon!
  • Here are some items that are always needed at Grace; feel free to bring them to our next GBM or reach out to one of the donations directors to coordinator drop-off!
    • Men’s clothes, New underwear, Towels, Hygiene Items

- semester long drive; drop off at next GBM 4/16 or find a director at any event.

  • Acetaminophen (Tylenol)
  • Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin)
  • Aspirin

Allergies:

We are placing boxes in dorms for move out

Sign up to volunteer to help with pickups Monday April 21st- May 6th from 10am-12pm each day

  • Meet at dorm
  • Help load up the GRACE truck
  • Anyelo/other grace staff will meet you there for the load up
