Our goals today:

I will: provide a foundational template to allow remote, asynchronous, lab-based learning opportunities for students at home complete with immediate feedback and linked resources for enrichment and remediation.

I will not: Rethink your existing labs in new ways - that’s your job!

We should teach the students, as well as executives, how to conduct experiments, how to examine data, and how to use these tools to make better decisions. -Dan Ariely

The experimental process

What we often lack, at least in the past, is sufficient time to provide feedback and to allow students to find meaning in their data. That most certainly would be the case now...

Let’s move the students beyond the report and into understanding - “once, but for all” - using these simple steps:

  • Create lab instructions or Inquiry parameters on the hyper document of your choosing. Pear Deck or Google Slides work great!
  • Create a Google Form for the purpose reporting data.
  • Now add conditional responses to your Google Form that includes feedback and hyperlinks to resources for both remediation and enrichment.

Still reading those lab reports?

Google Forms responses can automatically fill a Google Sheet where you grade responses en masse.
