Supports and assists students with their dual credit application and college readiness testing for enrollment.

Supports and assists students with their dual credit application, class enrollment and college readiness testing (TSIA) while students set goals and plan for their careers. Her goal is to work to help more students finish their programs and move on to college/university or jobs.

Supports prospective Paetow High School dual credit students with HCC applications and current dual credit students with tuition questions, degree planning, and monitoring earned credits to determine testing or prerequisite requirements. Reviews academic progress, provides guidance and next steps for struggling students, and assists with access to HCC tutoring and academic resources. Additionally, she helps students set goals and plan for their careers. Her goal is to work to help more students finish their programs and move on to college/university or jobs.

Curriculum

Curriculum is designed by HCC and the course may be taught by a Katy ISD teacher or an HCC professor

College credit earned depending on passing grade. Credit is generally transferable to colleges/universities in Texas

Apply Texas - www.applytexas.org

  • Create a free account and select Houston City College
  • Do not use an iCloud email address
  • Typically takes 48-72 hours for students to receive HCC ID# after completing application This is required for new HCC students only

Dual Credit Residency Page

New students: will complete the Dual Credit Residency Change form and Dual Credit Waiver Approval form.

Directions on how to complete the forms at the top of the Residency Form

All students: (new and returning; all grades) must complete the Google Form given at the time of their counselor meeting.

Students will add one parent’s email address so all correspondence will be sent to both people.

Google Form closes March 27th @ 3 pm Deadlines are strict

**Bacterial Meningitis shot record is required for students taking a course on an HCC campus

Does my child have to test to take dual credit classes?

  • Students with no college credits are not required to test.
  • Students with more college credits may need to meet a minimum SAT or TSIA score.
  • SAT Minimum Score (register at www.CollegeBoard.org)

SPED/ 504 Accommodations

  • High school accommodations do not automatically apply to college courses
  • Students must schedule an appointment and meet with an ADA counselor each semester to receive accommodations with HCC

Attendance

  • HCC does not differentiate between excused and unexcused absences - Katy ISD field trips/UIL competitions count as an absence
  • Students can be dropped for 6+ absences
  • Student is responsible for all make-up work
  • Specific meeting days/times may vary between course/campus

  • Miller does not have dual credit HCC professors
  • Students with dual credit scheduled at Miller will be enrolled in a study hall and must take the dual credit class virtually

  • Katy ISD does not provide progress report or report card grades
  • Campuses will receive an Early Alert from the professor if a student is struggling
  • Students will receive a letter grade from HCC which Katy ISD converts into a number grade

The biggest mistake students make is thinking they are finished after they apply through Apply Texas. There are MANY steps and it is a tedious process.
