Youtube - Amaris

History:

Youtube has three founders. Their names are Chad Hurley, Steven Chen, and Jawed Karim and at this given time they were all working under the same company, Paypal. Originally, this site was suppose to be a way for people to introduce themselves and say what they are interested in. Since this was not well received, they changed their pivot to sharing videos. Ever since then YouTube has grown on an exponential level. On February 14, 2005, Chad Hurley would register the “YouTube” trademark, logo, and domain on Valentine’s Day. In April of that same year, the first ever video was uploaded. Karim was the first person to post a video. The video’s name is “Me at the Zoo”. The site would later launch in December 2005.

Instagram- The Instant Telegram

Instagram is a photo and video sharing app that was launched in 2010 by Stanford graduate Kevin Systrom. Systrom had no knowledge of computer science, but he learned to code in his free time while working at a travel recommendations startup. He soon built his first prototype app called BURBN which was inspired by his love for drinking. The prototype allowed users to check in, post plans and share photos (a unique feature for any app at the time). Systrom was able to raise enough capital with his prototype that he was able to hire a team to support his venture. They decided to focus mainly on the ability to share photos taken on a mobile phone. They stripped BURBN down to basic abilities and functions such as liking, commenting and sharing photos. They then renamed the prototype “Instagram”, and it was ready to launch in October of 2010.

It is no doubt that instagram made a splash in the app store but instagram has other ways of impacting our society other than sharing pictures of your lunch. The app has connected communities and different parts of the world in just a click of a button, it has mobilized activism allowing users to protest and spread awareness, and It has changed marketing strategies as well as creating a platform for small business’.

The Telegram History

The Telegraph was invented, technically, multiple times over the 1700s to the 1800s. It’s three inventors were André-Marie Ampère; a french physicist and mathematician, David Alter; an American inventor, and John Morse; another American inventor. The electrical telegraph had been used for near over a hundred years, losing its use after World War I when cable phones and radio became more popular and functional, especially on the war front and business side.

The Telegram Impact

The telegraph had a great impact on the expansion of business and industry, expediting lines of work that normally took days, like banking, mail services, and communications. Not only that, but it fueled war efforts, making a rider’s days of travel over battlefield and trench take only a day with a telegram line, and an operator. Not only that, but Morse code was developed in use of the telegram as well, allowing messages to be coded during war times, in order to prevent information from falling into enemy hands. The telegraph revolutionized communication, and paved way for newer innovations of long distance communication.
