The tiny vineyard of Tierra Roja is located on steep terraces of rich, volcanic lava, in the heart of Oakville, Napa Valley.
Linda Neal has a long history in the Napa Valley, first working as a consultant and then starting her own vineyard management company in 1987. She managed vineyards until 2007, when she shifted to the wine business full time. She still farms the Tierra Roja Vineyard, with help from Ruben Rubio and his team.
While the land is the true essence of Tierra Roja, those flavors need help getting from the vine to you. Winemaker, Jeff Ames, with help from our friend, Tor Kenward, do a brilliant job of creating the wine. Friends, James Lee and Lindsey Gorfine, were the boots on the ground while I was in Morocco. And still helping me sooo much!
Was serving as Peace Corps Volunteer in Morocco from September 2018 to COVID evacuation. Here shown with my first host family.
Second host family. Me standing at the edge of my village.
My Peace Corps job was 3-fold, share American culture with Moroccans, share Moroccan culture with Americans, and to serve in a local youth center, in youth development.
One of my best programs was initiating a youth soccer league. Here you see me at that first practice.
Another favorite activity was working two summer camps, for boys and girls. Here you see one of my girl’s teams making a pinata.
Current activities besides farming? Vineyard Mentor to the Rianda House Senior Center in St. Helena. The group shown after our recent harvest.
