What is "Rheo"?

  • "Rheo-" is a prefix for words that deal with liquid flow, such as "Rheology."
  • "Rheo" is the name of our 2D third person sidescroller action platformer game about the water cycle.
  • "Rheo" is the name of the imaginary planet or kingdom where the game takes place.
  • Originally conceived for Ludum Dare.

Meet Bernoulli

  • Bernoulli, named after "Bernoulli's Principle" in physics, is a cutsey anthropomorphized living puddle of water, controlled by the player.
  • He can run, jump and transform into different states based on temperature.
  • Partially inspired after the Drupal logo: a drop of water with a smiley face.

Liquid form

  • Liquid form (the default) can move quickly on level surfaces and can seep through the ground to find hidden areas.
  • Liquid form doesn't get hurt by spikes.
  • Liquid form may get a double-jump ability that Ice doesn't have if that playtests as more fun.
  • Very vulnerable to thirsty enemies.
  • Maybe can transport through warp pipes

Ice form

  • Ice form moves more slowly on level surfaces and slides faster downhill.
  • Can smash through enemies and some walls.
  • Is not subject to wind fans that may be deployed in the level.
  • Ice form may not be able to jump as high as liquid.
  • May be invulnerable to some enemies.

Cloud form

  • Cloud form can fly and possibly shoot lightning bolts.
  • Doesn’t get hurt by spikes but may have difficulty staying down.
  • Reaching the top of the level causes the cloud to rain and thus transform back into liquid form.
  • May be difficult to control and keep from going upward.

Handling state changes

  • Using igloos or refrigerators stationed in levels achieves Ice form.
  • Cauldrons stationed in levels boil Bernoulli into Cloud form when jumped on top of.
  • Going through waterfalls or touching the map ceiling achieves Liquid form.
  • If Bubble form is added, jumping through a hoop achieves it.

Ideas for stuff

  • Collectable water droplets act like rings in Sonic.
  • Spikes hurt Ice form & kill Bubble form.
  • Fans blow all forms except Ice.
  • Cute, crazy enemies like hopping yellow sponge people who look like Tater tots with angry eyes. They get bloated & immovable if successful in absorbing Bernoulli.
