Junior Year

  • REQUEST LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION �
  • COMPLETE TEACHER LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION SURVEY IN NAVIANCE�
  • COMPLETE COUNSELOR LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION IN NAVIANCE�
  • ADD AT LEAST 3 COLLEGES TO YOUR “THINKING ABOUT LIST”

Requesting Letters of Recommendation: Step 1

  • Email two core academic teachers to request letters of recommendation (English, Math, Science, History, World Language)�
  • Select teachers who know your strengths as a student and/or teachers in subject areas pertaining to your college major �
  • If you plan on majoring in Art, Music, Business, etc. you may want to request an additional letter from a teacher in one of these subjects�
  • Make your request official in Naviance! -- Be sure to give your teachers enough time in advance!

Building a college list with a Range of Admission Standards

  • Consider the following
    • GPA
    • SAT/ACT Scores
    • The Admission data for incoming Freshman profile/statistics
    • College Acceptance Rate

Reach: Colleges where the student meets the majority of the admissions criteria but not all.

Target: Colleges where the student meets all of the admissions criteria.

Safety: Colleges where the student exceeds all of the admissions criteria.

Researching colleges: Supermatch

Naviance has some great resources to gather info on colleges! Get started by trying out the SuperMatch search engine tool. �Follow these steps and fill out the criteria
