Let’s check out La Brea Tar Pits
The La Brea Tar Pits and Ice Age, Los Angeles
The NHM Curiosity Show continues exploring science in Los Angeles. This month, we visit the La Brea Tar Pits to learn about Ice Age mammals and the creatures that roamed L.A. thousands of years before our city was built. We'll explore how the fossils are excavated, and see the vast holdings of the Tar Pits, from huge mammoths to saber-toothed kittens.
(5 minute video)
The Geology of La Brea Tar Pits
We’ve excavated over 3.5 million fossils from the La Brea Tar Pits, and we’re still digging! Why do we find SO many fossils here? Gallery Interpreter, Michelle Vanegas explains the set of conditions that came together to create this incredibly rich deposit of fossils, right in the middle

Read for Book Club
This summer you can join one or both of our book clubs. “Harry Potter Book Club” will be connected to our weekly LEGO class. “VRT Book Club” will be built around books with philosophically rich ideas. We will have weekly p4c Book Talk & p4c Zoom sessions for each of these two Book Clubs.
