The Art of JEN PADRON
I am a genderfluid, abstract intuitive artist, single mother, Peer Support Specialist, Peer Research Consultant, LGBTQIA+ mental health advocate, person with lived experience, and a trauma and psychiatric survivor. My art evolved through struggling to make meaning and find purpose in my life, at a time that I consider to be my “Dark Night of the Soul.”
Creating art is a wellness tool and an intuitive spiritual process that serves as a form of meditation to focus and channel my emotional experiences. I acknowledge the healing, instead of focusing on the product of my creations. There is no design or goal in mind for what emerges, as each piece evolves through streams of consciousness and intuition. I am merely the conduit, allowing the movement of universal energies through my creative space. It takes months and sometimes years to complete my paintings. When I’m finished, it has taken on a life of its own and is a snapshot of my life during that period.
With intention, I often choose bright colors and circles to represent balls of energy and create something that feels alive and growing. Eyes usually appear in my art that represent wisdom, inner knowing, or a witnessing of our experiences as humans. Some eyes are observers of trauma and appear frightened, angry, or ambivalent. Some are resilient and enlightened after gaining much post-traumatic growth and healing. I am the artist seeing myself as a witness to my life and the world around me, to the trauma and pain, but also to the love and beauty.
My artwork encourages regenerative thinking, the expansion of imagination, and facilitates awareness of trauma experiences and the resilience that can develop out of extreme suffering. I hope that my creations portray the inherent beauty in all forms of emotional experiences and inspire others to look within and reimagine the nature of creative transformation.

GAYLE BLUEBIRD’S POEMS
“I Promise”
The sound behind the words,
The love in the words,
Keenly felt,
For not always
True
what is meant
When often said,
“I promise”
is often
Trivial,
Like a wishing well
That does nothing
But hold wishes
Worth only pennies,
But when the wait
Is short,
No longer than the
Day is long,
How our hearts are
Lightly tapped
Our capacity for
Joy restored.
You Can’t Force
You can’t force
Not tie up,
Or wrap like a mummy,
Not set aside ina room,
As if left to die
For a little while,
But complicated because
“Mental illness”
Does not come in a bottle
Or is cured from a bottle,
And yet when you feel it,
It exists, when you see it,
Something exists,
What? when answers are
Sought and found,
We don’t shout but often
Frown.
The symptoms, the cures,
The questions
You are left
to find your own
Answers!
We hope you enjoyed the virtual art show
