Recommendation

Establish a pilot that would allow nonresident students who enroll in 6 or less a waiver of nonresident fees for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Implementation

Students must

1. complete the “6 Steps to Register”

2. enroll in 6.0 units or less*

3. pay the enrollment fee of $46/unit

(*The registration system will automatically recalculate the fees if a student enrolls in more than 6 units and will be charged the out of state rate of $264.00 + $46.00 = $310.00 per unit)

PART ONE

  • Attend a CA high school for (3) years or more.

  • Three or more years of high school coursework and attend a combination of CA elementary, secondary, and high school of three (3) or more.

  • Attended a combination of CA high school, adult school, and community college for the equivalent of three (3) years or more.

PART TWO

  • Graduate with a high school diploma OR have the equivalent (i.e. GED, CHSPE, TASC, HiSET).

  • Complete an Associate Degree from a CA Community College.

  • Complete the minimum requirements at the CA Community College for transfer to the CSU or UC system.

In order to be eligible for AB540, students must meet one requirement

from part one AND one requirement from part two

  1. Complete the 6 Steps to Register for Classes

  1. Update an Application to Admission

  1. File a CA Nonresident Tuition Exemption Request form to Admissions & Records for an update of the student’s residency to Exempt NRES AB540 status.

APPLY FOR FINANCIAL AID

  • Apply for the CA Dream Act Application each year.

OR

  • Submit a CA Promise Grant (CCPC)
