  • Open data is the idea that some data should be freely available to everyone to use and re-publish as they wish, without restrictions from copyright, patents or other mechanisms of control. �
  • Open governance is the governing doctrine which holds that citizens have the right to access the documents and proceedings of the government to allow for effective public oversight and accountability.

  • Founded by Jimmy Wales and Larry Sanger on January 15, 2001.

  • Wikipedia is coined from the words wiki and encyclopedia. A Wiki however, is a website which allows collaborative editing of content and structure by its users. Founded by Ward Cunningham in 1994.

Practice Session

  • Create a Wiki account, following the steps given by your instructor.

  • Share your username in your Wiki group via Whatsapp or to friends and family via social media (consider using an anonymous username when creating your account if you are uncomfortable with sharing your actual name).

  • Explore the site (user interface) and feel free to query your instructor on anything you would like to know.

  • Let your instructor know of any problems you face during account creation.
