The Steps I Took
Research Our Competitors
These are the list of our competitors with the same kind of services as Sparkleen. We picked the top keywords used by them before we decided on our individual keywords.
Competitor Keywords
Final 10
Keyword Examples
These are some of our competitors’ keywords that were generated using SEMRush - to make it easier for us we compiled it in the keyword manager on SEMRush and narrowed it 10 keywords that are relevant with our service in terms of intent and volume
Main Keyword
Based on the competitors’ keywords list, I chose “deep cleaning” as my main keyword.
Deep cleaning has 1300 volume - still considered a good volume; it is an informational and commercial keyword, and lastly its competitiveness is at 29 indicating that it is still quite easy to create content in order to compete with others.
Main Keyword SERP
To determine whether the keyword is actually showing the desired result (contents related to deep cleaning), I searched the keywords and came to conclusions:
Sub Keywords
For the sub keywords, I picked 5 keywords that fit the intent and relevancy with the service that Sparkleen offers using the Keyword Magic Tool on SEMRush.
Additionally, I also considered the search volume and the competitiveness of these sub keywords before deciding on them.
(I understand that there are sub keywords that may relate to another topic but sadly these are the only relevant ones since others are focused on a certain product - printer)

Competitor SERP Result
Before creating the content brief, I checked the SERP result for competitors.
The competitor’s On Page Content shows that there are still a lot of missing essentials such as images that can be optimised. Furthermore, we can also optimise the content title, title tag and the URL of our blog post.
Additionally, in terms of the technical side, both are already on point with the use of the H1, but could definitely optimise other headers. Images should also include title and alt text.
*) Unfortunately for the 2nd competitor I could not use anyone else from our list since the keyword does not show their sites when typed in - therefore I used the second result from Google when typing “deep cleaning”
Content Brief
After looking at the competitors’ SERP result and determining the points I could use for our blog post, this is the content brief. The title tag and the meta description has been adjusted so that it meets the best practice and the goal is aligned with the keyword’s intent.
I also added other optimization for the page itself that could make the page easier navigate and indexed by Google. Also, I gave out notes for the copywriter including suggestions for them that could develop the contents further
CONCLUSION
In this project I learnt that:
For blog post/pages that are intended to be written in local language, please use the keywords in the local language as well so that the sub keywords are still relevant and easier to do SERP for competitors
Ensure that your main keyword is relevant with competitors, otherwise it will be hard to do comparison and thus makes it harder to create content brief
Stick with keyword with one intent so it will be easier for the copywriter to create the content (one intent, one content)
Thank You!
