What is the Purpose of Title I?

Title I is a federally funded educational program that helps schools with a high poverty population by giving supplemental funds to reach academic goals.

All children deserve a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high quality education

How Does A School Qualify for Title I?

A school qualifies for Title I if 47.2% of the school’s official enrollment qualifies for free or reduced lunch.

Requirements for a Title I School

  • Comprehensive Needs Assessment (CNA) Each Title I school conducts a needs assessment to gain a better understanding of the strengths and the root causes of the identified needs.

  • Title I Schoolwide Plan Each Title I school creates a yearly plan that is implemented and monitored throughout the year. It describes how the school will improve academic achievement by addressing the root causes of the needs identified in the school’s Needs Assessment (CNA).

  • Parent and Family Engagement activities are conducted to create partnerships with families to assist in increasing academic achievement.

‘Ohana Involvement

  • Families can support their keiki and our school by:
    • Attending/participating in school events
    • Keeping friendly open communication with the school/kumu
    • Attending meetings and offer insight or input
    • Following us on social media, keeping “in the know”
  • Title I funds helps our school in the following ways:
    • Technology purchases: Staff and students
    • School supplies
    • Huakaʻi (field trips): Waikalua Loko I’a, Castle Performing Arts Center, etc.
    • After school ʻohana events and supplementary materials
    • Academic Programs and online academic screening
