Clap your hands

Make joy your cry

God our King is

Lord most high!

2 of 10

Clap your hands, all you nations;    shout to God with cries of joy.

For the Lord Most High is awesome,    the great King over all the earth.

He subdued nations under us,    peoples under our feet.He chose our inheritance for us,    the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.

God has ascended amid shouts of joy,    the Lord amid the sounding of trumpets.

verses 1-5

Sing praises to God, sing praises;sing praises to our King, sing praises.

For God is the King of all the earth;sing to him a psalm of praise.

God reigns over the nations;God is seated on his holy throne. The nobles of the nations assembleas the people of the God of Abraham, for the kings of the earth belong to God;he is greatly exalted.

I can remember a specific chapel service in the late 1970s, when I was a college teacher, in which I was sitting beside a fellow faculty member who during a prayer simply laid his hands, palms up, on his lap. I remember the almost disgust that I felt seeing him do that

…suddenly I found my hands lifted in the air, and it was as though I was watching myself rather than doing it. I had never, in 36 years of my life, lifted my hands in song until that moment. To this day, I cannot explain what happened, except that it bore fruit in what felt and feels to me now like a release from a very significant bondage.

Eight things to be set free from

  1. What if clapping and shouting are just cultural?

Some things are in our nature… and these are also in our culture!

  • What if I do it at the wrong time?

Be human, do what feels right, and it won’t be ‘wrong’

  • What if this puts blokes off church?

WE ARE TOP OF THE LEAGUE

  • Wary about this church

Get to know us, then decide!

  • Wary about God

The Psalms show us he is good and worthy of praise

Eight things to be set free from (pt2)

  1. Wary of emotion

The Psalms encourage emotional expression!

  • Wary of the motives of others

You can only see the outside – it is God who looks at the heart

  • Wary of your own motives

CLAP YOUR HANDS EVERYBODY!

Clap your hands, all you nations;    shout to God with cries of joy.

For the Lord Most High is awesome,    the great King over all the earth.

One thing that sets our hearts for praise

“In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us...”

Ephesians 1:7-8

Clap your hands

Make joy your cry

God our King is

Lord most high!
