Ms. Bavas
We talked about how her mom is her hero and how she loves her mom a lot. She did two years at DMACC and then two years at ISU. Originally, she wanted to be a hairstylist, but she felt it wasn't the right path for her. The teacher that helped her most in high school was her high school FCS teacher, VW. She really likes teaching at Oak View because of the people she has met and she doesn't know how the day is going to play out. She knows that this year has been a really good year. One grade she would never teach is kindergarten. One person she has always depended on is her older brother. She knows that if no one else is answering the phone, he will and he still checks in on her. Ms. Bavas is the best teacher because she's caring, fun, and is able to understand her students’ emotions. We love you so much, Ms. Bavas!

Mrs. Ellingson
Never fire Mrs. Ellingson. She does not have a backup plan! She has always wanted to be a teacher since she was little and would play school with her cousins and grandma. She has taught grade 7-12, but her favorite by far is 8th grade. She loves going to school every day to see all the funny things that kids do. Mrs. Ellingson likes teaching science because it is very active and she likes the experiments it involves. Her favorite unit is the mousetrap cars! Mr. Gifford
Mr Gifford is one of the most chill, funny, and relaxed teachers in our school. He always tries to make it fun and enjoyable for his students. If you do not understand something, don’t be nervous to ask. He is very understanding and wants what is best for everyone. He is willing to talk to anyone at anytime he is available. If you disrupt or do something in class, he will talk to about it and he will give you another chance. He likes to have you have a good time but also doing work. He makes it fun and a good time with everyone. Mr Gifford is a great teacher because he tries to entertain everyone and to make everything fun for you.
Mrs. Glade
Mrs. Glade is a awesome teacher, but teaching wasn’t her first choice! Mrs. Glade comes from a family of teachers, and as a kid, she said she didn’t want to be a teacher. She wanted to be a lawyer. But she realized lawyers have a lot of bad days. Eventually, she decided to be a teacher, and she now loves to teach. She got her degree in political science, from the University of Iowa and University of Nebraska. She said that “I love what we do, but World Peace day is a so much fun and probably would be my favorite thing to do in the school year.” Mrs. Glade has been teaching for about 25 years and loves it every year! We are so happy that she came to Oak View and she is definitely a favorite amongst the student body in the past two years!
“I love all my students, it would be impossible to choose a favorite. ” she says.
Mrs. Guntly
Mrs. Guntly has been teaching for ten years within three different schools, including teaching not only language arts, but also social studies. She tends to feel as if teaching has caused her to have a greater amount of empathy towards others, such as teachers and students. When she was younger, she had really wanted to become an interior designer. Because of this, she decided to take up an interior designing class to be able to achieve this goal, with later realizing that she had hated the class. Her friends have inspired her throughout her entire life, leaving her to wonder, “How would I be able to do something like this and be able to go through with this within my own life?” Even with having to deal with “difficult” students, Mrs. Guntly is still able to calm herself down so she doesn’t make others feel as if she is acting out of anger, but rather just trying to situate the disruption in the classroom. Mrs. Guntly is an amazing teacher to have at our school and she plans to continue teaching for many more years to come.
Mr. Hanson
Mr. Hanson is a 8th grade Pre-Algebra teacher at Oak View. Anyone who knows Mr.Hanson knows that he cares a lot for his students; his favorite part of being a teacher is seeing all of his students learn and improve. One of his favorite activities doesn't even have anything to do with math. It's actually the students building mousetrap cars. Mr. Hanson says that watching the students work hands on and testing their ideas is super fun to watch. Unlike most people, Mr.Hanson knew he wanted to be a teacher since he was in first grade when he used to play school with his brother. One of his favorite memories has to be going to the Price Is Right and being able to sit in the audience! Even though that was his favorite memory, being a dad is his biggest accomplishment. Mr. Hanson's favorite subject is math; he’s really glad he gets to teach that instead of art (even though his artistic ability has improved over the years) or reading and english. Not only is he a great teacher, but he knows how to take care of the rowdy kids in class. He uses his amazing humor and sarcasm to get the kids back on track. Mr. Hanson is truly one of the best teachers I and many other have had. So thank you, Mr. Hanson!
(Ps. He has no favorites. He “hates us all equally”)

-Bella Boots
Mr. Jaspering
Science has always been Mr. Jaspering’s favorite subject, so there is no question as to why he started teaching in that subject. He also likes sports, and he would have been a coach if he wasn’t a science teacher. Mr. Jaspering became a teacher because he liked to interact with the students.
Mrs. Judd
Mrs. Judd is Oak View’s counselor, head of Student Council, and event organizer all in one. She works really hard to pull off activities like shirt days, student council meetings, etc. And she absolutely loves participating in those activities. She loves out of the box thinkers, but still appreciates being with all the students and watching them grow and become successful. Counseling middle school students is her absolute favorite thing to do. Being able to work with and through students is 100% amazing to her, and it’s made her appreciate the value of every student, and she knows that every student has a story. Also, make sure you look out for her at the end of the school year, because this is her last year at Oak View.

Mr. Klein
Mr.Klein’s inspiration throughout his life has always been his parents and his teachers. His teachers helped him realize that he wanted to follow in his dad’s footsteps and become a teacher, specifically a Tech Ed teacher. Although, if he could go back in time, he would become an architect.
P.S. Mr Klein’s favorite students are the ones that are focused but still have fun in his class.
Mrs. Knudtson
We talked about her experience in teaching and what she loves about it. She adores being a math teacher, even when difficulty comes with it. If she wasn’t a math teacher, she would also love to be a seminar teacher. She loves talking about what the world really is about, and why we should be careful and watch out for what is to come.
Kwametee & Ella
Mrs. Larsen
Mrs. Larsen loves teaching 7th graders; she loves building relationships with them and seeing them evolve as a person over the school year. Her favorite school lunch is pizza, but Subway Thursdays are the highlight of her week. She once tore her ACL twice while playing volleyball, but she started working at a daycare and fell in love with working with kids. She was inspired by her teachers growing up, but especially her 8th grade teacher, Mr. Smith, for pushing her to make new friends. We love how nice Mrs. Larsen is and how she can motivate her students!
Mrs. Lindeque
We talked about how her friend got her into her teaching career and how her softball coach inspired her. We talked about how her favorite softball moment was beating the one seed in the playoffs. She shared the reason why she teaches at Oak View. We talked about how her favorite place she’s been was Cape Town ,South Africa. We love Mrs. Lindeque because she’s the best P.E. teacher.
Mrs. O'Brien
Mrs. O’Brien is a social studies teacher for 7th grade. Her favorite unit to teach is the years 1930’s-1940’s, but she also likes the Africa unit. Before deciding to be a teacher, she had a nursing major, but heard stories from other nurses and decided teaching would be better. She loves hanging out with Ms. Ditzler. If she were to describe teaching in two words, she would use challenging and rewarding. One of her favorite things to do in school is go to teacher development lunches.
Mrs. Oppenheimer
Mrs. Oppenheimer is a 7th and 8th grade English and Writing teacher. Her favorite thing to eat at school is Subway. Next year, she will stick to teaching 7th grade. She would love to move to 8th grade, but there is not enough 7th grade Language Art teachers. If she was not a teacher ,she wanted to be a artist. Her dad always inspired her and he was always someone she could rely on. Mrs. Oppenheimer has been teaching at DCG for one year, but she has been teaching for four years in total. Mrs. Oppenheimer feels like she was made to teach and it makes her happy. She wanted to teach reading and writing because she loves to read. Her favorite part of the school is her room. We love Mrs. Oppenheimer because she loves her students and always helps them when they need it.

-Bronwyn Squires
She is very good at art.
-Elana Hamp
Ms. Peters
I had some good conversations with Mrs. Peters. We talked about a lot of different stuff. It was definitely a lot more fun than talking in class. We talked about if she was not a teacher, what would she do as a career. To that she responded when she was little she told everyone that she would be an air marshall. I also asked her about who was your hero / role model and to that she said, ‘My mom because she is humble and supportive of everyone.’ I asked who is her favorite student and she said that she didn't know. We also talked about who Mrs. Peters could rely on when she was younger and she said her best friend, as well as her older brother. Then to wrap up the conversation I asked her who is her favorite Disney princess. She said Airel. She also said that The Little Mermaid has the best soundtrack of all the Disney movies. I love Mrs Peters because she is a fun, loving teacher who is fun to talk to. Sincerely, Addie.
Ms. Prince/Mrs. Kristoff
Mrs. Prince participated in FFA (Future Farmers of America) during all 4 years of high school and was a reporter for 2 of those years. While in FFA, she participated in agriculture sales, conducted meetings and job interviews, and helped put together the scrapbook for her chapter. She also showed livestock such as horses and beef cattle. She is very passionate about teaching the agriculture industry to others. She went to school at Iowa State University where she studied Animal Science, but she ended up switching to Agriculture Education her junior year. While at Iowa State, she worked at the beef teaching farm where she had hands-on experience managing Iowa State’s beef cattle farm. She has been teaching for three years. If she wasn’t teaching, she would want to find a career where she could still educate people about the agriculture industry. Or she’d love to own her own coffee shop! Some fun facts about her include her favorite animal (horses) and her favorite color (yellow).
Mrs. Quam
Mrs. Quam is a 7th grade language arts teacher. She started her love for teaching when she would play a game and she would be the “teacher”. She loved playing the game and decided she wanted to be a real teacher. This year has been really fun and has gone by too fast for her. She just wants the year to be just a little bit longer because she will miss her students. She is only worried about one thing for her students and that is ISASP (but we all are worried when that comes around). Mrs. Quam is a great teacher because she is fun and cares about her students.
Mr. Rankin
Mr. Rankin is an 8th grade social studies/history teacher. He has been teaching at DCG for 21 years, and has enjoyed teaching many different grades. In college, Mr. Rankin had a professor who inspired him to become a teacher. He loves watching movies, and if he wasn’t a teacher, he might want to be a movie critic. His hero is his dad, who’s hardworking and perseverate. Mr. Rankin’s happiest moments were the births of his two sons, as well as when his team won a basketball championship. Thank you, Mr. Rankin, for everything you’ve done at this school. I’m so glad I got the chance to get to know you!
Mr. Ray
Mr. Ray is a very nice teacher that teaches 8th grade science. During our interview, we talked a lot about what Mr. Ray thinks about teaching and what it has been like teaching at DCG. He hates all of his students the same and doesn’t pick any favorites. He doesn’t plan on changing jobs, but when a substitute teacher spot comes up for math, he grabs it. Finding inspiration in his friends, family, and his grandfather who he still plays in golf today, (Mr. Ray is better) he found out that he wanted to become a teacher because of his love of helping people. Teaching isn’t something that feels like a job, more just like something that he does every day. Though he doesn’t know the meaning of life he says he will still write a book about what it means to live the best life possible. Thank you, Mr. Ray, for being an incredible science teacher.

Mrs. Spoelstra is the best teacher because she has always dreamed of being teacher. Her parents had inspired her with the positive influence they had on others. She has always enjoyed science and has been fascinated by it throughout her life. She has always enjoyed working at DCG because of the people that she was surrounded by.
