Once in day surgery, you (and your care partner) are escorted to a room where you will being the process of getting ready for surgery.

You will change into a gown and be given some cloths with chlorhexidine in them to wipe down your body (we really want to prevent an infections!).

Then a nurse will start an IV and go over a lot of information such as when the last time you ate or drank something, when the last time was you took each medication on your medication list and some basic health questions.

One of the program coordinators will stop by to introduce themselves.

You will meet with your anesthesia provider so they can go over the information you shared with the surgical navigator you talked to on the phone and come up with a specific anesthesia plan for your surgery.

Your surgeon will also come in and go over your surgery consent as well as mark the correct joint to be replaced.

We encourage you to have your care partner with you during this because is a lot of information and it can be overwhelming at times. Having a safe person with you can have a calming effect for you plus they can remind you of question you might have had or remember all the things said to you before surgery.

Everyone will be wearing masks, gloves, & surgical scrubs to protect you from infection
You will slide from your pre-op bed onto the operating table

Recovery (PACU)

After surgery:

Supplemental oxygen
IV fluids
Vital Signs are taken
Post-op Nausea/Vomiting
SCDs are placed
Cold gel packs applied
Sips of water & crackers or apple sauce
Start oral pain medication
