Indole

​

  • Indole consists of a benzene ring fused at α, β position of

pyrrole ring.

  • It is obtained by distillation of oxindole.
  • Therefore it is named as indole.
  • Indole occurs in coal tar and oil of Jasmine and orange

blossoms.

  • It is present as part of total structure of number of

alkaloids and amino acids.

  • Indole gives the red colour with a pine splint moistured

with Conc. H2SO4.

  • Quinoline is made up of benzene ring fused at α, β position

  • It is present in bone oil, coal tar and angostura bark.
