THE BLACK TECHNOLOGY, SPECIFIC TO MARGINEA CERAMICS, COMES FROM THE GETO-DACIAN CULTURE (HORODIȘTEA-FLOREȘTI).
THE BEGINNING OF MODERN POTTERY AT MARGINEA IS DATED AROUND 1500, IN RESPONSE TO THE NEED FOR FOOD STORAGE.
Marginea is famous in the country and abroad for its pottery center, where clay takes on various forms: mugs, jugs, bowls, samla pots, vases, platters, sconces of various sizes and much more.
Decorated by impressions directly on the wet vessel and by polishing with flints on the dry vessel. The uniqueness of this ceramic is the black color, which is given by the way the clay is fired, namely, by firing without oxygen.
History�During the communist era , was very hard to be a possession of a potter wheel because it was considered a crime.
A lot of people do that craft in secret.
The technological process of manufacturing ceramic products takes 3 weeks, from the moment of modeling on the wheel, decoration, drying and then firing in the oven.
The black ceramics of Marginea is unique in Europe.
