INTRAMURALS

36 of 99

OVERVIEW

The Intramurals (IMs) Program is a place where everyone can come and have fun playing sports in a safe and supportive environment. Serving as an alternative to the more competitive varsity or club sport offerings, IMs welcomes players of all abilities and identities.

With inclusion in mind, Intramurals is a place to find community, whether it be through playing in any of our leagues, participating in our one-off tournaments, or working as a student-staff member of our team.

In these slides, we’ll review the following:

  • Who is eligible to participate in IMs

  • Sports offered by quarter

  • Staffing structure overview

  • How IMs interacts with other areas within the Recreation dept. as a whole

37 of 99

ELIGIBILITY

All participants for Intramurals programming are required purchase the $25 IM Pass, which grants full access to as many leagues and tournaments as desired per quarter, OR a $10 Single Use Pass, which grants entry into our one-off tournaments.

As part of our employment perks, all Rec Staff across the department are able to receive a free IM Pass! Many employees who work for IMs will form staff teams, and we are always more than happy to host employees from other areas within Rec as well!

To play in our leagues and tournaments, participants must be current UW students, UW employees or +1s with an IMA Membership.

We offer single gendered (Men’s and Women’s), Co-Rec (has a certain ratio of men and women) and Open (no specific gender requirements) divisions across most of our sport offerings. We welcome non-binary + gender non-conforming individuals to participate in our Open divisions, to “count” towards whichever ratio they choose in co-rec, and to play in either Men’s or Women’s divisions depending on their preference.

STAFF STRUCTURE

Intramurals is home to anywhere from 70 to 80 student-staff throughout the year!

At a foundational level, Officials are responsible for refereeing our various sports leagues throughout the year.

Above Officials are our Official Leads, who have a expert grasp on specific sports and assist with trainings and evaluations.

Next, we have Program Assistants (PAs) who are our on-site supervisors. Trained in risk management and first-aid + AED + CPR certified, our PAs are the staff who are responsible for making sure everyone stays safe, has fun and gets home on time.

Finally, we have Program Leads, who act as expert advisors to the Intramurals Manager. They have the authority to make autonomous decisions for the program, and weigh in on program-wide conversations on budget, hiring, staffing, which sports are offered, and everything in-between.

IM STAFF + REC DEPT STAFF

As Intramurals runs almost every day of the quarterly calendar, odds are you will come into contact with an IMs staff member at some point throughout your day-to-day life working within the Rec Dept!

First and foremost, you should be able to ID any Intramural Staff by their purple lanyard & IMs photo ID, which they are required to wear during their shifts.

If you work at the front desk, you’ll often cross paths with IMs staff who need to check out keys, whether an IMs set or the keys for the truck.

If you work for the maintenance team, you’ll coordinate with IMs staff on the usage of the Rec Dept. truck.

If you work for the First Aid desk, IMs staff will check out a med kit, an ice chest and an AED machine for every shift. You’ll also work with them by being the first line of support for any major injuries, responding to calls for back-up from our PA staff on the court or out on the fields.

The Rec Clubs administrative staff assist the clubs in fulfilling their goals and objectives.
