NCTSA Influence Award
The NCTSA Influence Award was created in 2019 in honor of Dr. Richard E. “Dick” Peterson. Dr. Peterson was an Associate Professor in the Department of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics Education at North Carolina State University. He was an avid supporter of the arts, STEM education and teacher education across the state and nation. He is remembered for his ability to tell stories that capture your attention and many times convey a hidden message.
The NCTSA Influence Award provides North Carolina TSA members and alumni the opportunity to recognize former and/or present North Carolina TSA Advisors that impacted their career choice and/or perspective on life and education.

Dr. Laura Hummel
New Chapter of the Year
The NCTSA New Chapter of the Year Award was created in 2019 to honor Dr. Laura Hummell. Laura was killed tragically in a hit and run accident in late 2018. Prior to returning to her home state, she was a Technology and Engineering Teacher in North Carolina at Manteo Middle School. She also served on the NCTSA Board of Directors and as the Northeast Region NCTSA Competitive Events Coordinator for many years. She was actively involved in NCTSA and TSA at the national level. She advocated for new chapters and worked to mentor several TSA advisors.
The NCTSA New Chapter of the Year Award will recognize NEW Red or White CAP Chapter and one NEW Blue CAP chapter each year. NEW Chapters are defined as chapters in their 1st three year of affiliation.
