David Xiong
My name is David Xiong, and I am a sophomore at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I am excited to be joining Cambridge Local First (CLF) as an intern this spring. The organization’s message of small businesses especially resonates with me because it has been a shame to see local businesses like restaurants, like Tapeo on Newbury Street, closing in the Boston area.
I am interested in a wide variety of fields, including politics, public policy, environmental protection, and business. At school, I am currently a member of the editorial board at my school’s political opinion magazine, and I also compete on my school’s speech and debate team. I am very much involved in sustainability and environmental issues as well as the co-Vice President of my school’s environmental action club, the Eco Reps.
In addition, I have acquired a bunch of technical skills due to my math background in competitive math and doing independent research and data analysis projects (using SAS computer modeling). In joining the organization, I hope to bring both my writing and technical skills into action!
Outside of these interests, I can be seen rapping, composing poetry, playing the piano, traveling, surfing, or running on my school’s cross country team. Last summer, I had such a fun time at a music camp at Tanglewood!
This summer experience will be a meaningful time to connect with my local community, work in policymaking, and advocate for change that best serves our local businesses and communities. I’m excited to join this journey and hope you are as well!
