MATERIALS NEEDED:

  • One aluminum can
  • One cardboard can (such as a frozen juice can)
  • Can opener
  • Awl or something to use as a punch
  • Meter stick
  • Zip ties or sturdy tape (e.g., duct tape)
  • Rubber band
  • Thermometer

STEP 1 :

Remove one end from each of the cans.

STEP 2 :

Punch 3–4 holes in the other end of each can.

STEP 3:

Use two bands of tape, or two zip ties, to secure the aluminum can to the base of the meter stick.

The bottom of the can should be even with the bottom of the stick.

STEP 4:

The juice can is a moveable lid for the metal can.

Cut the side of the juice can so it can easily slide inside the metal can.

Attach the juice can to the meter stick with a rubber band. The can should be moveable.

STEP 5:

Place the thermometer in the compartment formed by the two cans.
