CLOUD 9 WORLD CHARACTER TRAITS

C9W is an SEL school program that utilizes character strengths to empower students by improving their self-awareness, awareness of other’ emotions, and increasing their knowledge of positive/meaningful relationships. It encourages students to adopt the character strengths and embrace mental wellness.

CLOUD 9 WORLD CHARACTER TRAITS

  • P.S. 264 is learning how to utilize character strengths to develop social emotional skills through the Cloud 9 World program in addition to our school wide other SEL curriculum, "The Zones of Regulation".
  • Each month we focus on a new character strength to build the students' understanding and help them apply this strength to themselves, their school, and their community.

HOW C9W WORKS AT P.S. 264

  • Every classroom is given a Cloud 9 World Kit (k-2 or 3-5) containing all the character trait lessons for each month. In addition, classrooms have a poster and gear their SEL lessons towards that month's character trait. This year’s traits are:

September: Responsibility

October: Self-Control

November: Courage

December: Gratitude

January: Generosity

February: Tolerance

 March: Honesty

April: Patience

 May: Cooperation

 June: Creativity

SEL BOOK OF THE MONTH

  • Each month there is a new SEL book of the month that matches our Cloud 9 World's character trait/word of the month.
  • Students read, participate in a class discussion, and complete a written activity related to this book.
  • Some examples of this year's books of the month are: "All Are Welcome", "What Should Danny Do; School Day" and "I Can't Do That, Yet."

SCHOOL WIDE BUCKET FILLER PROGRAM

  • Bucket-filling is a term used to refer to positive attitudes and behavior.
  • The analogy comes from the book “How Full Is Your Bucket?”
  • The book relies on the analogy that every person carries with them an invisible bucket.
  • This bucket contains a person's feelings and emotions.
  • When the bucket is full, this represents us feeling happy and content.
  • Bucket-fillers are people who act in a way that fills another person's bucket, by practicing kindness and good behavior.
  • Examples of bucket filling behaviors: picking up someone’s belongings when they fall, helping others, cheering up another classmate, being an “upstander,” sharing, being kind, and listening
