Our Native Nations within Rochester Public Schools

RPS is unique as our native families and students come from various different nations.

These are just a few of the nations that our students are part of.

If any nation has been missed, please email Amelia Cordell, so she can add your nation or village!

District-wide Initiatives for Strategic Change (DISC):

Family Engagement Team

  • Team of RPS leaders has been researching, meeting, and discussing options for a Family Engagement Framework.

  • Team selected and recommended the Dual Capacity-Building Framework and Minnesota Family Engagement Model, which Superintendent, Dr. Kent Pekel, approved.

  • Team is now meeting to develop an implementation plan proposal for that framework.

Minnesota’s Family and Community Engagement Definition

“Family engagement is a process and a practice rooted in relational-trust which creates opportunities for equitable partnerships between families and school and district staff. These partnerships, from birth to graduation, nurture shared responsibility for students’ academic and social success and honor the lived experiences, expertise, and cultural knowledge of all stakeholders - students, teachers, staff, families, and communities.”
