Startup Name: IfOnly - www.ifonly.com
Program/Year: MBA 2017
When you interned: Summer and some consulting in the fall
Work experience prior to Sloan: I was a Product Marketing Manager for Creative Cloud at Adobe, where I focused on developing the go-to-market strategy for the education vertical.
How I made it happen: I first became interested in IfOnly after hearing a VP speak at a Brand Innovators conference in San Francisco a few years ago. I sent a cold email to their general info@ifonly.com email mentioning that, and asked about internship opportunities. I ended up being hired by the Director of Supply Acquisition.
What I actually did for them (aka my value prop): I managed the telesales team, launched a referral program, implemented Hubspot, and did the supply tracking and forecasting.

Startup Name: Lightwave (now defunct)
Program/Year: MBA 2017
When you interned: January 2016
Work experience prior to Sloan: Prior to Sloan I worked in a sales, business development and strategy role at News Corp, where I was responsible for launching our digital advertising services platforms in the Canadian market.
How I made it happen: I participated in and won one of the competitions in the 2015 Hacking Arts Hackathon, which was sponsored by Lightwave. I stayed in touch with the CEO and eventually expressed my interest in working with them for an E&I Club DEP placement.
What I actually did for them (aka my value prop): The company had a promising technology but was trying to be too many things to too many people. I helped them narrow their immediate focus to a beachhead market and develop their go-to-market strategy.

Guide Creators & Thank You
Our guide development process, as captured below, required a significant amount of research, many interviews with fellow Sloanies, and months of “collaboration” by the creators. From left to right:
Thank you to the Sloanies below for taking their time to share their startup recruiting experience with us. Without their help, we would not have been able to create this guide!!!
