STEAM EDUCATION?

Science, technology, engineering, art and maths are all things that are extremely relevant to life now, especially with the technological revolution that is currently taking place around the world.

Since computers are now so prevalent, it is very important that students are taught these subjects in order to be able to cope with the new design in education.

Through the foundations of STEAM education, the potential is there for students to go on to anything they wish with their careers,to be ready to develop new skills and competences for their future.

Technology is inevitable in our everyday lives. This is because life without technology is pointless in today’s dynamic world. Technology, which brings together tools to promote development, use and information exchange, has as its main objective of making tasks easier and the solving of many problems of mankind. When technology progresses and makes our lives even more convenient, we must stress how beneficial it is to our lives.

Engineering is a crucial part of our society because it provides solutions to the problems we face in our daily lives. Engineers use their knowledge, skills, and creativity to design, build, and maintain systems, structures, and technologies that improve our quality of life!

The addition of the ‘A’ (The Arts) to the original STEM discipline to create STEAM was an important step. Adding “the Arts” to STEM to create STEAM is about “incorporating creative thinking and applied arts in real situations”.

The world we live in will only continue to become more complex, and it’s up to schools to ensure that students are equipped to adjust to its complexities. The most important than ever that our students and future leaders is to :

    • Multisensory Learning: Utilize multiple senses (visual, auditory, kinesthetic) to teach concepts. For instance, in mathematics, use manipulatives like blocks or beads to represent numbers and operations.
    • Visual Aids: Provide visual aids such as diagrams, charts, and graphs to complement verbal instructions. Visual representations can enhance comprehension for dyslexic students.
    • Structured Learning: Break down complex concepts into smaller, manageable steps. Providing a clear structure helps dyslexic students organize their thoughts and understand the material better.
    • Interactive Learning: Incorporate interactive activities and hands-on experiments to engage students actively in the learning process. This can include building models, conducting experiments, or participating in group projects.

▶ Scientific learning and scientific skills are undoubtedly important and cannot be denied, but without having that human touch of emotion and feeling in it, scientific logic is meaningless.

▶ Thus, to conclude, why STREAM learning became popular is something that was meant to be and had valid reasons to become known. It is essential to integrate all disciplines in order to succeed in applying them in an integrated manner in education.

▶ The young people of today will become the adults of the future, but they will have a plus in terms of skills.
