Student with HIGH DE units (30-60+ units) - May miss out on 4-year university experience at impacted universities that have timely graduation policies. CTE courses may not be articulated with university degree requirements (check Assist.org) At impacted universities, students who have accumulated HIGH DE units may need to appeal to change majors.

TIPS FOR

UNIVERSITY-BOUND STUDENTS

Meet with a high school or community college counselor before selecting individual dual enrollment courses!

Check your Community College unofficial transcript after each semester to make sure your grades and course credit is correct.

Be aware: private universities dual enrollment policies vary widely.

Talk to a community college counselor to develop an Educational Plan using your dual enrollment credits, recommended after completing 12 units.

TIPS FOR

CSU-BOUND STUDENTS

GPA Honors Bump - Dual enrollment courses (English, foreign language, history, lab science, & adv math receive a 1 pt. Honors grade bump (maximum of 8 pts). CSU Admissions Handbook, pg. 24 section K

CalState Apply Application - DE courses must be reported in college coursework section to receive honors GPA bump.

Remind seniors that they must send their community college transcripts to the university they will attend. Do this as soon as possible. This will help academic advisors recommend courses at orientation.

CalState Apply Application - Dual enrollment courses must be reported in college coursework section, not in high school coursework section.

RECAP

Consider Major exploration, major prerequisite courses, and major preparation early on.

Make sure to get academic advising and/or speak to a high school or community college counselor.

More is not always better – especially without a plan.

Monitor amount of General Education classes taken via dual enrollment to ensure a balanced schedule in your first year of college.
Dual Enrollment policies at 4-year institutions vary widely.
