Teacher & Counselor Recommendations

Ask for recommendations at least one month before the deadline for submitting

Provide a resume or brag sheet to your recommenders

  • H.S. Counselors provide information about the educational environment:
  • Strength of curriculum (availability of AP and honors)
  • Average SAT and/or ACT scores
  • Percentage attending 4-year colleges
  • Contribution to FHS

When to Apply for college

SAT UPDATES

CLASS of 2025

All Juniors took the SAT in April of this year. If you plan to retake the SAT, National Test Dates are scheduled starting in August. See the College Board website for more information.

Some colleges may not require SAT scores for admission decisions. Some scholarship offers, however, may require SAT scores.

Check college websites for their Class of 2025 admission requirements.

College Admissions Visits for Juniors and Seniors

  • Admission representatives will be offering informational sessions through Thanksgiving. Sessions may be in person or virtual.

  • You must sign up to attend a visit. A QR code for sign up will be in the Guidance Office and the rounds starting in the Fall.

  • You must meet the school’s admission criteria to attend.

MERIT SCHOLARSHIPS

  • Colleges will award scholarships based on a student’s GPA and SAT scores.
  • Every school has different standards and different amounts that are given.
  • Some colleges also require a separate competition to earn these scholarships if a student is eligible.

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

  • Available in October online at fafsa.gov
  • You and your parent will complete the form online using tax information from 2023.
  • The FAFSA determines your eligibility for need and non-need based aid; grants, loans, etc.
  • Deadline to complete the FAFSA is March 1, 2025
  • All colleges and many trade schools use require the FAFSA.
