Define the problem
When looking over famous works of art at John Dewey High School students noted that there is a lack of female representation. This is in both with creating works as well as represented within the works

Gather Evidence

A recent survey of the permanent collections of 18 prominent U.S. art museums found that the represented artists are 87% male and 85% white.

Only 13.7% of living artists represented by galleries in Europe and North America are women.

Gather Evidence
At John Dewey High School, when were are reviewing works of Art from well known collections we can see based off of the previous slides statistic, that majority of the collections are created by males.
This also does not account for women of color.
Identify Causes
How can we as a class learn about representation if it is not currently happening in real time?
Female representation has only increased due to the changing landscape of societies views on women that is still currently evolving.
Evaluate Existing public policies
Currently there are particular times of year that create a designated time to talk about female artist. Women's History Month
Develop Public Policy Solutions
For every project where a new skill is being taught and teachers use art history to address artists well known for that skill, teachers should be allowed time to also find additional resources that show female artist that have achieved the same level of mastery on the same skill
