We went up to my grandfather’s cabin last weekend. It was fantastic. We went fishing on Saturday morning, and I caught a bass off the pier, so Dad said he’d have Mom cook the fish for lunch. Cleaning a fish is kind of gross because you have to cut it open, but Dad did most of that, and then we went swimming at the swimming hole. My brother Tad and I took turns pushing each other out over the water in a tire swing. Tad would push me hard, and I’d jump off into the water, and then he’d yell for me to swim back and push him, and we spent all afternoon swimming and pushing.

On Sunday morning, Dad cooked pancakes and thick, crunchy bacon on the old wood-burning stove, and we ate like pigs, and Tad and I wanted to go swimming again, but then we decided to go for a hike instead. We looked for creepy bugs while we were in the woods and we found slugs, centipedes, and caterpillars, but we also caught a few butterflies, but we let them go. We kept a couple of the caterpillars in a jar and looked at them all the way home in the car.
