What is the Howley ASPIRE Program?

An enrichment program for high school juniors interested in a career in Nursing, Respiratory Therapy, Surgical Technology, or Sterile Processing

Focuses on career information and critical skill sets needed to be successful as healthcare professionals

Provides an opportunity for a generous college scholarship

The Four Careers

Nursing

I know your probably wondering what are these 3 careers…

Sterile Processing

- Clean, sterilize, and reprocess surgical instruments the surgeons use for surgery

- Test and inspect instruments to ensure instruments are in good working condition so the surgeon can perform a quality surgery

Prevents infections by making sure instruments are clean
This is one of the most important departments in the hospital because, without clean instruments, the hospital can’t run! This is the HEART OF THE HOSPITAL!

Surgical Technology

-Assist the surgeon in surgery by passing instruments

-Preparing and maintaining a clean environment in the hospital operating room

-Responsible for maintaining the sterile field and ensuring all items used are accounted for

Respiratory Therapy

Responsible for giving breathing treatments to patients; like – inhalers for asthma or oxygen if they need extra help with breathing
Manages machine that helps you breathe called a ventilator
Assess and treats patients who have problems with their lungs

Nursng

-Most trusted profession in the U.S

-Focused on the care of individuals , families and communities so they can attain, maintain or recover optimal health & quality of life.

-Find new solutions to daily life challenges.

-Makes a significant difference in the health/wellness of others

Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA
