ROV WORK
Tomorrow will be the final mission to clean up as much trash as possible
7
ROV DEBRIEF
Based on all the work I have done today and this week, I see myself as a science leader.
My Team’s ROV design is ready for the mission tomorrow.
I think floating trash will be harder to collect than trash at the surface.
I feel confident piloting the ROV.

DAY 4 – TERRESTRIAL ROBOTS
TERRESTRIAL ROBOTS K-2 (DAY 4)
MANZANITA CANYON
11
We will be collecting data on how much trash we find in the canyon by making a tally mark for every piece of trash we see.

Manzanita Canyon trail is 1 mile long.
1 mile = 5000 feet
1milla = 5000 pies
MANZANITA CANYON
We will estimate how much trash is in the canyon by taking a sample of the amount of trash in a smaller area
We will lay out 100 feet of transect tape. What will we need to multiply by when we finish to get an estimate of the whole trail (1 mile = 5,000 ft)
Each person will get a 10-foot section to collect their trash in
When you find a piece of trash in your square, add a tally mark in your science notebook.
19

CREATE & NAVIGATE A TEST COURSE
Each team is going to design a mini canyon section right here in the classroom using materials I'll give you. Then, you are going to trade courses with another team and code your DASH to navigate through a course you have never seen before.
24
BUILD A COURSE
You will be assigned to a section of the floor on which to build your course.
Your course must include:
You may not block the entire course.

DEBRIEF QUESTIONS
When were you doing science today?
How prepared do you feel for your final mission with DASH tomorrow?
Tell me something you learned about coding today.
When were you using math today?
How do you think what you learned today could help you during your final mission?

DAY 4 – SELF REFLECTION
PROMPT
1. Imagine you and your robot are exploring the canyon. Draw your adventure as you study the canyon! Tell us about what you will see and how you would help the canyon!
2. Imagine you and your robot are surveying the canyon and discovering a brand-new plant or animal that no one has ever seen before! Draw your discovery and your mission.¡Imagina que tú y tu robot están explorando el cañón y descubren una planta o un animal completamente nuevo que nadie ha visto antes! Dibuja tu descubrimiento y tu misión.
3. Breaking News! You are a reporter sharing your canyon mission! Draw/write what you would tell people about what you have done at Ocean Discovery this week so far and about your mission!¡Últimas noticias!
