Equity Considerations

Equity elements are infused throughout the rubric, as seen in this example:

Section 2.5 Canvas Tools and Apps

Aligned: Canvas tools and apps help students easily access materials and complete activities. Most tools and design choices reduce barriers, support different learning needs, and provide equitable access—such as being mobile-friendly or easy to use on various devices. (draft language)

Goal:

  • Center equity in course design to support success for all students
  • Infuse and/or amplify equity principles throughout the rubric
  • Incorporate and build upon the foundational work of the Peralta Equity Rubric

What Happened to Section D?

  • New federal and state rules require all digital content to meet UDL and accessibility standards.
  • Accessibility is no longer a separate section in the rubric.

The CVC Course Design Rubric has been updated to reflect these requirements. UDL and accessibility are now foundational skills demonstrated in Section 0.

What Happened to Section D?

Section 0 prepares a course to be “review-ready.”

Course Authors will:

  • Complete a Backward Design document used to refine content
  • Identify accessibility issues and create a remediation plan to fix them.

The peer online course review may begin while accessibility fixes are underway. However, before a course can be badged, all identified accessibility issues must be resolved.

Goals

  • Compliance: Meeting federal and state accessibility requirements (Section 508, Title V, WCAG 2.1 AA).
  • Faculty Empowerment: Encouraging course authors to develop sustainable accessibility practices using tools available system wide.
