M2 - Overview

Objectives

  1. Provide “support to users to professionalize their tools and guide them to be NFDI-RDC compliant”.
  2. Support “certification of [...] software tools, of technical services and of domain-specific data repositories”.

Assessment

  • Repository certification according to CoreTrustSeal (CTS)
    • Easy, but resource-intensive: Clear requirements & standard process
    • Impact of data stewardship/owner responsibilities often underestimated
  • Compliance & certification of tools & services
    • Definition of “RDC-compliance” will take a while
    • Best possible support for tools & services to be defined

  • Close collaboration with TA4
  • Communication with NFDI Section on Common Services (& Quality Management & Assurance once established)

Existing sources

  • RDA “FAIR for Research Software” WG
  • UK Software Sustainability Institute

M3 - Capturing the Status Quo

  • M3 started compiling existing information from the data centers (repositories) in a confluence wiki.

  • Will get in touch next month to set up interviews based on a questionnaire to fill gaps.
    • @WP1,WP4: If you want to be part of that: get in touch!

  • Afterwards: Joint workshop with TA4M5 to gather and prioritize the demands of the more than 20 partners on tool and services enhancement, documentation and consolidation.

→ Long-term goal of the NFDI4Biodiv: support partners to make tools, data and services fit for RDC

Task Area 3 - Questions for Discussion

  1. Did we miss any important tool/service categories? If so: which?
  2. As a tool and service provider: How do you want to be guided to provide your tools? Should there be a “knowledge base” edited by the NFDI4Biodiversity community with information on the tools (quality, usability) and tool recommendation?
  3. As a data repository: How do you want to be guided to provide data?
  4. What kind of support would you like to have to make your tools and services FAIR and sustainable?
  5. In case of high demand: what are your suggestions for managing/prioritizing requests for support?
  6. How can we improve the communication and the cooperation between all Task Areas?
