The preterite tense in Spanish tells what happened at a particular moment in the past.

So how do you form the preterite of -ar verbs?

  1. Take off the –ar ending
  2. Add the appropriate ar preterite ending

The nosotros form for -ar verbs are the same in both preterite and present tenses.

​

* No stem changing occurs in the preterite –ar verbs!
