History

Used to be one nation, New Granada, with Venezuela and Ecuador with Bogota as capital.

Spaniards came in 1500’s looking for gold, and took from natives. They caused wars and brought diseases, so only 10% of the natives survived.

On July 20, 1810, Columbians protested the Spanish rulers in Bogota. Under pressure, the Spain allowed limited independence, which later became permanent.
