  • Students have asked if there is some flexibility to take one more course from either the STEAM Electives or General Electives.

  • The answer is yes BUT it means that you must commit to taking the Civics and Career Studies Course this summer – before you begin grade 10.

21 of 42

  • Grade 9 students who completed a Grade 10 Compulsory
    • DO NOT select it again for next year
    • Choose an additional Elective course

Example

  • Not able to be scheduled in Grade 9 Technology (TIJ1O)
  • Replaced by Grade 10 History (CHC2D1)
  • You have the option to select one of the Grade 10 Technology courses (TEJ2O, TDJ2O, ICS2O) or any other Elective course

  • As a general rule please DO NOT select a course for next year that you have completed in Grade 9

Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test

All Grade 10 students write the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test in the spring of their Grade 10 year.

If a student is successful, they fulfill the literacy requirement for graduation.

If a student is unsuccessful, they can rewrite the OSSLT or enrol in the Ontario Secondary School Literacy Course (OLC4O) in their grade 12 year.

Extracurricular

Involvement

SATEC has a variety of sports teams, clubs, and activities.

Extracurricular participation builds teamwork, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

In addition to being fun and rewarding, extracurricular participation may make students eligible for post-secondary scholarships.

27 of 42

Planning Your Education

STEP 1

Consider:

    • Your occupational goal
    • Which post secondary route will take you there – Workplace, Apprenticeship, College, University

STEP 2

    • Check websites for information and requirements

www.myBlueprint.ca/tdsb

www.ontariocolleges.ca

www.ontariouniversitiesinfo.ca

www.oyaptdsb.com (OYAP Course Selection Information Video)

STEP 3

    • List Grade 12 courses required for your post secondary, then reverse plan

STEP 4

    • Talk to your family

STEP 5

    • Talk to your guidance counsellor when in doubt

28 of 42

Students will use myBlueprint (online course selection platform) to choose their courses for next year.

Guidance must receive parental/guardian/caregiver approval for your course selection.

You will be prompted to send a consent email to your parents/guardians/caregivers to receive approval for your course selection.

29 of 42

Log in to www.myblueprint.ca/tdsb (make sure you include /tdsb at the end)

Click on the green button and log in to myBlueprint with the same log in information you use to log into your school account.

30 of 42

Click on High School and this grid planner will appear.

Click on each subject area in the Grade 10 column for the course codes and course descriptions. Enter your desired courses.

Remember to pick two alternates.

31 of 42

If you are planning on taking Civics and Career Studies (CIVCAR) in summer school, DO NOT choose CIVCAR on your grid.

Instead add the additional course you want to take at SATEC in the CIVCAR spot (circled in red)

32 of 42

Once you have entered your 8 courses and 2 alternate courses, proceed to Step 2 and review your course selections CAREFULLY!

It is not a race, student course selections are considered equally as long as they are submitted by

DEADLINE – MARCH 1, 2024

33 of 42

Use the Add Comments field to inform your guidance counsellor

  • that you are taking CIVCAR in summer school.
  • plan to redo a course in summer school if you failed it in the school year.
  • Completed a grade 10 compulsory course and replacing it with an elective

It is very important that you use the Add Comments field to communicate your plans to us so when all students are timetabled, your plans are taken into consideration.

When you go to review course selections you will find the Add Comments section

34 of 42

Please think carefully about your course choices BEFORE you press the submit button.

Once you have submitted courses in myBlueprint they are locked!

Regrettably, guidance counsellors will be UNABLE to make changes to student submissions in myBlueprint.

35 of 42

An Informed Decision

Choose your courses wisely.

You will most likely be stuck with them.
