GLOBE Malta students meet Mayors to Explore Solutions for ‘Cooler’ Locations
July 2023
Students shared their project investigations and results on urban heating and sustainability with local council mayors.
Malta’s Eastern Regional Council and Research Innovation Unit– Involvement from Dr. Kevin Czajkowski – lead for GLOBE Urban Heat Island Effect

GLOBE Hydrosphere protocols guided 1200 data points sampled over multiple years. Engaging & sustaining staff and students from a local elementary school, partners, and community members.

Increase support for policies that protect the ocean and support sustainable fisheries for future generations, people’s health and livelihoods, and economic prosperity
LAND AND WATER CONSERVATION (30 X 30):
Discuss the importance of protecting nature and working towards the goal of protecting or conserving 30 percent of land and water in the United States and globally by 2030.
SPACE DIPLOMACY:
Highlight the benefits to people around
the world of open, collaborative peaceful
exploration and use of space
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
Build awareness and excitement around
international research collaboration and
applications for emerging technologies to
solve global environmental challenges.
PLASTIC POLLUTION:
Advocate for solutions to keep plastic
from contaminating the environment
and affecting human and animal health
EQUITY IN ENVIRONMENT,
SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY:
Build support for the full participation of
women and girls, Indigenous Peoples and
historically marginalized or disadvantaged
people in environment, science and technology
