Open Job & Skills Lab

  • Please ensure Lab computers are being used for its designated purpose. Explain the role of Open Job & Skills Lab. For example, the lab is open today from 10 am - noon for Work Force Development only.

  • Lab computers are allocated on first come first serve basis.

  • Please ensure customers are familiar with the HPL Policy 4.8 relating to the use of Internet. Keep a copy of the policy handy to familiarize new customers.

  • Have customers fill out the Sign-In sheet, including the time session started; ended and purpose.

  •  Assist customers with logging onto the available computer in the lab. If customers are waiting; add their name to the list for the next available computer.

  • Assist customers with questions relating to printing.

  • Collect statistics of participants for Monthly Report and report under Computer Classes.

  • Please maintain customer confidentiality.

Rules of Open Job & Skills Lab

*HPL Policy 4.8 relating to the use of Internet applies to the lab computers as well. Some highlights of this policy are:

  • All customers must abide by §43.22 and §43.24 of the Texas Penal Code, which prohibits the intentional or knowing display of such materials that are: 1) obscene (Section 1460, Title 18 of the U.S. Penal Code., 2) child pornography (Section 2256 of title 18, U.S. Code), or, with respect to use of computers with Internet access by minors, and (3) harmful to minors. while being reckless about whether a person, and especially a minor, is present who will be offended or alarmed by the display
  • Computer users will respect the established time limit and honor any staff request to end their session.
  • Users may not:
    1. Circumvent filtering or blocking software, or other security measures to access visual depictions deemed (a) obscene, or (b) child pornography, or (c) harmful to minors, as defined in the Children’s Internet Protection Act~Public Law 106-554).
    2. Circumvent public access computer time management software, or procedures.
    3. Use the workstations or laptop devices to gain access to the Library's networks or computer systems or to any other network or computer system.
    4. Obstruct other people's work by consuming large amounts of system resources or by deliberately crashing any Library computer system.
    5. Attempt to damage computer equipment or software.
    6. Attempt to alter software configurations.
    7. Attempt to cause degradation of system performance.
    8. Use any Library workstation for any illegal or criminal purpose.
    9. Violate copyright laws or software licensing agreements in their use of Library workstations.
    10. Engage in any activity that is deliberately and maliciously offensive, libelous, or slanderous.
    11. Install or download any software.

Violations may result in loss of access. Staff is empowered to terminate or extend a user session if appropriate. Unlawful activities will be dealt with in an appropriate manner, including notification of law enforcement authorities.

*This is an abbreviated version of HPL Policy 4.8. All of HPL Policy 4.8 apply and are posted on HPL website. A print copy is always available upon customer request.

  • Fill out a short application at your neighborhood library OR get a temporary registration on the HPL website
