    • Numeracy Ninjas twice a week to develop Mathematical fluency

    • Attendance focus
  • This provides a drive to developing numeracy skills, preparing students for the challenges of the world of work and provides key messages from the school to boost key communication

Remarkable Reading Programme

Why are we doing this?

Reading enjoyment is more important for children’s educational success than their family’s socio-economic status (OECD, 2002)

How can you help?

As difficult as it is, get them reading. It’s a habit that falls by the wayside at secondary school, and we can see this in student work. When students are readers, their work stands out. Novels, short stories, articles, newspapers, magazines, blogs - they all count. Television subtitles and social media posts don’t.

Reading for Progress

Based on their NGRT results, students are matched with a reading and literacy intervention targeted to their needs as part of a tiered structure. This includes Ruth Miskin’s Fresh Start Phonics, Lexia Core 5, Lexia Power Up, Accelerated Reader and Masterclasses.

Reading for Pleasure

Everyone in the school now spends twenty minutes reading at the start of every day. Students are free to bring in reading material of their choice. Alternatively, they can access the school library.

Reading for Learning

Reading is taking a higher priority in all lessons across the Academy. Students can expect to read at least one literary text related to their learning per subject per half term. All texts will be followed by a “5W1H” summary activity (Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?).

Attendance

  • Attendance is critical to your child’s learning. If they are not here they are missing out on valuable knowledge and skills that their teachers are sharing with them every day. Attendance of 80% over 5 years = one whole school year missed.
  • There is clear documented evidence that links attendance to outcomes. Our own top performing students are also students with good / excellent attendance.
  • Please call and report absence each day a student is unwell or unable to attend. Please aim to do this before 7.45am.
  • If your young person is someone who does not like coming to school please be confident in our ability to work with them. This may be new to you, but we have dealt with many students who feel like this and our dedicate Pastoral, SEND and Safeguarding teams will support students in integrating into school even after prolonged absences.

Standards gate

The expectation is that ALL students attend school each day in full academy uniform as per the uniform policy on the website.

If a student arrives to school wearing incorrect uniform or with uniform items missing:

  • They will be directed to the standards gate on arrival to the academy. Students will not access the main site before going to Standards gate
  • They will be met there by a Pastoral Leader who will discuss with them why their uniform is not perfect
  • A Pastoral Leader will call parent / carer to discuss the uniform issues and offer support where possible
  • A one day uniform pass will be issued to the student if appropriate and this will be monitored by the Head of Year to ensure that correct uniform is in place as soon as possible
  • In some cases, uniform items will be replaced by the academy and charged to Parent Pay (in discussion with the parent / carer)

Class Charts – Behaviour and Rewards

  • Classcharts is a programme that allows us to track and record positive and negative behaviours throughout the school day as and when they occur
  • Year 7 will be the first whole year group whereby we are sharing that information with parents live as it happens
  • We are committed to reducing any low level disruptions in lessons and this will allow us to record those repeat offenders.
  • Rewards at CCA – So many students conduct themselves impeccably day in day out at CCA, classcharts will allow us now to recognise and reward those students.
  • Each student will have a detailed break down like the image here.
