Introduction

The effects of climate change are visible to all of us.

Natural disasters have been increasing in frequency.

What makes it a bigger problem for marginalized groups?

Effects of climate change on the most vulnerable

  • While developed, western nations are also affected by climate change, the biggest impact it has is in poor countries.
  • While richer nations can afford to spend on preventing and relieving disasters, third-world countries do not have that privilege.
  • Despite contributing less, they take the toll for it.

Possible solutions

  • In order to minimize casualties, we should monitor the risk of disasters via satellite data and local information, and immediately inform authorities in order to evacuate the populace if anything alarming is detected, along with making an app for informing the general public and allowing them to chip in with donations in order to relieve the effects of the incident.
  • Imposing sanctions upon highly polluting enterprises and introducing higher taxation would be necessary along with letting people know what they can do to help, as change does not happen without action.

Ways to implement said solutions

  • Some of our proposed actions in fighting climate change are already – at least partly – implemented.
  • Things like SEDAC and NASA Data Pathfinders do exist, and donation and information apps have been increasing in popularity.
  • While an organization like NASA cannot impose any restrictions upon pollutants, they can urge people to do their part in protecting the environment, and with it – marginalized people.

Who is at fault?Final thoughts

  • While we are all responsible for climate change in one way or another, the average person does not in any way contribute more to it than entrepreneurs looking to stockpile billions in their bank.
  • However, we all still need to do our due diligence in order to reduce the impact on our environment and our own carbon footprint.
