What I’d Learned: Reflection

I joined the Civic Engagement Club because I wanted to take action in the community to help out families and residents. With the help of brainstorming ideas with Ms.Jimenez (advisor) led to the goal of providing those in need that can’t afford nutritious food. Ms.Jimenez directed me to Ms.Shatvay who is a partner with Find Food Bank. We had a couple of meetings on organizing a date for the distribution and advertisement. My IMPACT teacher Mr.Jackson taught me how to create posters using adobe pro. It was a teamwork effort of establishing a poster that would catch people’s attention. When the poster was completed, I started to spread the word around school and outside of school. I started to get in contact with teachers, IHS Administrators and the city council mayor and members by sending out emails, anchoring on the broadcast, posting on social media and presenting to the board/public. The Distribution was a success and another one is going to be held on April 18th to continue feeding the community. Putting this project together strengthened my communication skills because of getting in contact with people. I learned digital marketing skills and was brought out of my comfort zone with spreading the word out. Mastering time management was included because of figuring out a schedule that balances doing homework and planning this project. Civic Engagement has inspired me to continue volunteering because of putting a smile on people’s faces. I would like to thank Ms.Jimenez, Ms.Shatavy and Mr.Jackson for their contribute and support in The Find Food Distribution.
